A few things....
my new motto: if it doesn't benefit the entire family, I'm not going to purchase it. If it does benefit the entire family, I still need to discuss it with Svend :)
--case in point: today I was driving past Micheals and outside there was a TEMPTING sign... .99 for cloth covered baskets! HUGE baskets! so cute! I could do a million things with them...maybe. Wanted to turn the car around and then I thought of Svend coming home from work and seeing them... he would say "and WHY did we need those?" :) so...I RESISTED! There will be more sales when I can afford them!
Slap in the face: for the past 4 years we've been on food stamps. Tally understands this because I've had to explain to her multiple times why I CAN buy her a treat but NOT a toy even when they cost the same amount. So, yesterday we are going through walmart and she wanted something, but I was sticking to my list. I heard the words coming out of my mouth " well, daddy has a job now, so we can't buy that" WHAT?! How confusing is that??? She said "yeah! he has a job now! we CAN buy that." the answer was still no. I think I need to fill her in slightly on things.
Really grateful Finally: for WIC. I've always taken it for granted and RARELY used it with FS, so now that we are solely on WIC, I'm purchasing with GLEE! I'm finally not annoyed or frustrated with it. And I GLADLY tell the cashiers about my awesome hubby and all his hard work :)
Tightening the wallet may tighten the belt: Yay! haha. I didn't have the kids today because they were off on their weekly adventure with Sister B and I was hungry while at the store. I thought about just getting an icee...but then I figured, that's a dollar for something else. This may help out! And, we're going treatless--unless we have the ingredients to make it at home... The kids are fine with this because Monday night is FHE and whoever has the treat gets to choose WHATEVER they want. (like the donuts Bergen picked out last night) So, we'll still have treats, just not often :)
