Bergen: I want go to school! When do I get to go to school?
Me: after Tally...soon..... the end.
the truth is his last program was free because of state funding...and they lost their state funding. So, our current option is a tech campus program at a college (everyone loves it) for around $70 a month (EXCELLANT PRICE), or a co-op preschool.
The College would be our 1st choice, unfortunatly it's not $70 a month, because you have to pay all of it up front. Y.A. R.I.G.H.T! So... the next choice is co-op
Bergen is not really a self starter. He enjoys watching me do work for him...for example:
I asked him to practice writing his letters. It turned in to him telling me the name and sound of the letter, and I wrote it...WHAT? Yes, I give in... He's just not good at writing.
He also has a speech problem. I think. I'm getting him tested for speech in a few weeks...if he qualifies MEGA then he could get free preschool... sad that I actually WANT that for my child...
Anyways, he's definitly NOT like Tally. Tally was at the top of her class the entire year and was at a 1st grade level the entire kindergarten year... Bergen, I fear, will be at the bottom. I don't want him playing catch up the entire time or struggling. He's slow. Really. Not delayed. Just literally moves slowly :) He's just kind of like Eyore...yeah, I think that'd be the best way to describe him. HOWEVER, at his last preschool the teacher talked about how good he was and on the ball with everything... so I think school is really really helpful for him. He's really smart and knows a lot of math and is learning to spell/read...
anyways...so I'm going to a co-op meeting tomorrow with friends in the other ward. We'll see if it works... I hope he's okay with going to kid's houses for school...he really wants "school."
Love it.
Did I ever give you this link?

for the reading book I did with Hailey? I started with Andrew yesterday and he thought it was so fun to do "school" with mommy while Tyler was sleeping. We can't afford the $80/month for twice a week preschool here and don't qualify for the "head start" program at the school until this baby is born. (January) BUT, I'm a little sad that this is my last year with Andrew so I'm really going to try and treasure it before he starts kindergarten next year. You know, really trying to not wish my kid's childhood's away. It's totally hard on those days that I just want to kill everyone!!
I also use starfall.com with Andrew and do one letter a day. It is really helpful in teaching kids the letters and has fun games and stuff.
Good luck!
Christine.. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI would much rather have an actual school to drop my kids off at, because doing a co-op is more work and effort. But because of cost, it's my ONLY option this year. Hopefully we can make it work! Who are you doing yours with?
ReplyDeleteCo-op preschool is more work, but can also be a lot of fun too & my kids both loved it. Who are the other ladies you are doing it with? I can't think of anyone in the other ward who wouldn't be fun to work with & be awesome with Bergen. If Heather is one of them she always did the cutest lessons & so fun to work with. I am really glad I did co-op preschool with both Ava & Kasen. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteyeah, it's Wendi and Tammi, Alla, and a mom that moved from my ward. It will be alot of fun...but the driving..bluh! So, i'm going to still teach and we'll do the field trips, but not go as often as we would have...
ReplyDeleteYes I agree that the driving is the worst part. Then when u drop them off it seems like a waste to drive all the way back home so you have to figure out something to do for 2+hrs. I think you found the right balance w fieldtrips and occasional days.
