New Goals.

I realized last night that a big part of my crappy mood yesterday comes from just feeling crappy (and trapped) about myself. This body I'm wearing is not mine. So, in an effort to get a hold on my life, I'm making a schedule. I believe in schedules. I've always had scheduled nap and meal times for the kids...but now i'm scheduling everything! Play time, work out time, quiet time, park time, craft time, workbook time, cleaning time, etc.

It begins today. Once the kids are all awake we'll be discussing it...in detail. The only way it will work, however, depends on two things... our willingness to follow the schedule and Tabitha taking a nap! That's the only way I can work out.

Another thing I decided today is that I'm only allowed one book a week. Every time I get into a book I read like there's no tomorrow. But there is. And I wake up grumpy and I get annoyed when the kids don't let me finish my chapter, etc. So, instead of reading a series a week...it's only one book per week!

I'm cutting off Facebook as well--for the 3 day weekend. It frustrates me for personal reasons. ERG.

I'm going to the store today and hoping to find a dry-erase calander or something similar. I want to have daily goals and weekly goals for the kids and me. So far our goals of the day have been "no tattle telling." But I want the kids to come up with goals too.

We'll see how this goes.

  1. We have felt totally overwhelmed with moving and not being really settled yet, and decided to come up with just ONE thing we would do every day as a family--so at scriptures each night we plan our family goal. That's the ONE thing we must get done. The kids have 1 goal each too--whether it's clean their room or read 1 book or whatever--a tangible, achievable goal. That's it. One thing. I know we're probably lame sounding, but despite the craziness, it is ONE step closer to sanity. lol. :) Good luck with your schedules!!

  3. I like that idea and I may start doing the same thing! I also found this website called bodyrock.tv it is a workout website with things you can do at home and they are killer. I just did the jumprope challenge and have never sweated so much in my entire life. Anyway they are short..only up to 20 min and are effective. It has been great for me so I thought I would share.

  4. I love your posts. Kristina P told me once that she had scheduled "reading" times for her family so everyone would go to their beds & read whatever they wanted. Oftentimes the kids would fall asleep & she would study her scriptures. I think the rule was they couldn't get off their bed until it was time. I thought it was a good idea - haven't tried it yet. Good luck!

  5. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANKYOU!!
Tabitha didn't take a nap on Friday, so I set the big kids up to do a craft and Tabitha tried to get on the Wii fit with me and I kicked her off (bad mom?) totally ignored her and the kids eventually realized I really was exercising and not just playing and stopped asking me to help them with things while I was "in the mode" anyways, thanks for all the ideas too!! I'm checking out the bodyrock and reading in their beds is a wonderful idea! I've never done quiet time with my kids other than a movie...so I need to try the book thing...
