Through Trial and Error, This is Bliss

Going to "keep my cool" since I just wrote everything and it got deleted... but we're talking about Bliss here...so here we go...again!

We have a new incentive chart going at the house. I sat down with each of the kids and asked them to give me a list of jobs they could do by themselves. Here's what we got:
BabyGirl (6years old)
1. make bed
2.silverware
3.put toys away
4.dust
5.sweet
6.set table
Bugs (4 years old):
1. pick up toys
2.pick up my toys in my room
3. put everyone's shoes away
4. play with Sweets

They can't watch TV til all their "Helper Jobs" have a smiley face next to them :) Day two and its really working. The TV has been off but for 1 show per kid and they have just enjoyed eachother and played really well so far. I have also chilled out. They have their jobs...so if I really feel like they are fighting or just sitting around, I can ask (without complaint on their part) for them to go do one of their jobs (even if it's just to get them out of my hair!). I have also lowered my expectations for everything else. I've decided I can keep a cluttered but clean home. It doesn't have to be always picked up. It doesn't have to be spotless. I can concentrate more on just making sure things are wiped down and trash is picked up and dishes are done rather than why the toy box looks like it exploded.
I'm hoping that this really helps us out. So far so good. I feel like everyone is having a better attitude about helping--especially BabyGirl. She has a mind of her own and wants to do what she wants to do...so a lot of the jobs I ask of her on just not in her little fantasy world. But the jobs she chose are. Anyways, I'm glad I took the time to see what they wanted. And I'm hoping that we can have peace in our home :)
