I've been guilty of mud-slinging...so to speak. Basically, I think Obama is so far left it's scary. Moderate is okay...but far left craziness is scary. Anyway, that said...
The Church is out there...in the spot light. With Mitt running... and Harry Reid said Mitt was not the face of the LDS church and blah blah blah. I have to say, so far, I really think Mitt is standing with the values of the Church. John Huntsmen was a fence-sitter mormon and I would rather have a full on Mormon claiming he's Mormon then a fence-sitter claiming he's mormon as president! I'm surprise JH never denounced the church...anyway, that's off.
Today I saw a blog about a man that says he's being excommunicated because he writes a blog about the church. The leaders were quick to denounce this and as it turns out, the man was long ago inactive but wanted to write about the ins and outs of the Church, so he re-committed but essentially as a "spy" so to speak and then wrote about his "findings" on his blog. The leaders determined that the purpose of his writings were to lead church-members away... well...THAT makes sense! But they also said that excommunication is extreme and they cannot disclose the exact reason why his being called into disciplinary council. duh.
Anyway, I just wonder through this election how many members will leave the church and how many will re-commit themselves to the church's truth. The Church is true. I know this. Some leaders are dumb. But the Church is true and the Prophet is a prophet.
A few weeks ago there was "march" so to speak of "members" declaring themselves free of the Church. They met in a church parkinglot and signed a letter to send to SLC declaring they want their names off the records of the church. Whoop-tee-do. They were "liberated" and finally felt free from the chains of the church.
So much stuff keeps coming out about the church. True and false. It makes me so angry when I hear ignorant people talk of our faith as a cult...or make fun of us having prophets. Interestingly enough, I go to the catholic play center down the road. The other day I looked through their little lesson and it talks about adults giving their children blessings. It tells them to lay their hands on their child's head and give them a prayer. It tells them what to say... and yet...our priesthood blessings are seen as weird and sometimes just plain stupid. We watched the work and the glory on Sunday and the character playing Joseph Smith answered a pastor quite will when he asked what the difference was between the mormon faith and others. "Joseph Smith" said "your faith teaches you that Prophets spoke to people in days past and my religion says he still does." Not sure if the actual J.Smith said this...but it makes since and thus dispells how "dumb" latter day prophets sound to others.
On Sunday I just about died (and Svend too) when a man stood up to say the opening prayer for Sunday school (thankfully it was NOT sacrament!). He said "and bless that Mitt Romney will win the presidency." DOn't get me wrong, we are PRAYING for this all day every day...but not in church. We have democrats in our church who strongly believe obama will do a better job... hopefully they see this as one mans opinion and NOT the churches. Thankfully the investigators were in a different class!! But, there are so many fence sitters in our ward...who knows who got offended by that simple heart-felt prayer. Church is NOT a place for politics...but a lot don't see it.
And the mudslinging on facebook...when have we ever had access like this before? seriously?! Before this election it was blogs...before that just e-mail or news... but now it's facebook... millions of opinions out there. It's great and annoying...but I think it's great. Finally all those opinions are seen instantly and while it's annoying to some, it opens up everyone's political views... some make me angry, but oh well.... I am just scared I've lost a few friends because of my views... sent an apology to one...hoping she is still my friend...I guess that's why I've laid off the political posts on facebook...of course if there's a news report that I really like and must share...I have to.
Mitt romney got "in trouble" last week for saying there are 47%of people who will never vote for him and he's not concerned about them. It's funny because posting all the stuff of facebook has also made me realize that my democratic friends will never switch. They are part of that 47% so really all I'm doing is re-convincing my GOP friends. haha. Oh well...the end.
Kids in bed. Svends at a dinner. I bought avengers today...and told him I was starting it at 8:30. he wanted a date tonight when he got home... nope. starting the movie. it's 8:30.
