medicaid and finding a doctor

Well, new place means finding a new doctor. My baby has been sick for 6 days... high fever that goes down with meds but comes right back.  Called random doctors to get her in, but there is a process...one that takes 4-5 days to be exact! I finally cried to this one receptionist about how my baby was sick and she needed to be seen and I didn't know where to take her other than the ER (which I didn't want to do... 4 hours for an infection is kind of annoying...).  I don't know which immediate cares take medicaid...so I was stuck.

Finally found a children's ER 10 minutes away from us.  So glad I took her there.  Got right in, but all in all it still took 4 hours. The doctors were WONDERFUL and thorough, which I think a clinic would have diagnosed a sinus infection-WRONG.  She had the symptoms of one-fever, green drainage, lack of food, etc but what she really had was a UTI.  While all antibiotics kill bacteria, UTI's are caused by certain types that must be dealt with by certain types of antibiotics.  Poor baby. Glad she is on meds...hoping her fever stops spiking.

So, now she has to be seen for a follow-up tomorrow. Yay. No doctor to take her to.  I have "applied" for a new primary care pediatrician but won't be able to take her there til next week...so, we get to go back to the ER for her followup. Awesome.  However, the Doctors were SUPER nice and said to not feel bad about having to come back to the ER for the followup. Whew. But 4 more hours? ugh... ;)
