Well, we went to Springfield yesterday with $85 in the bank... bluh. Drove 3 hours, went to the office of regulation only to be told that Svend's license would not be even dealt with for another week. We asked them to at least give us confirmation that his money had been received. The answer "no one is going to take the time to go digging for you letter." wow. really? Thanks. This folks is our Government hard at work. On July 19th, they were just now opening up letters received on the 10th of July. Ours was received on the 12th. Praying they get to it on Monday. We asked if we could re-pay the money and then just get a refund once they "got around to finding our check." He said, "No because then they still wouldn't post it until they got to the checks received not the 19th." WOW WOW WOW!!!!
Svend's co-resident (3rd year) said "well, it was worth trying." No. We'll be submitting a receipt for refund for the $50 in gas we spent yesterday.
So, around 1pm we went and checked out the capital building. That was pretty cool. We went to the FREE Illinois State Museum. Okay... went and saw Lincoln's tomb which was neat to read all the stuff. Basically walked around a lot. We had tried to plan the trip (in 1 hour) to see some Lincoln sites so that it wouldn't be a waste of time...but it was a lot of walking for the kids in 100degree weather... We saw the old capital building and old Springfield was pretty neat. We also saw the war memorials, Firefighter memorial and police memorial.
Got home around 9:30pm. What an exhausting day! Glad we had a reason to drive to Springfield. Probably will not make it back there so that was good. Disappointed that Svend is basically out of work for another week tho! (he still has to be at work, but just does paperwork... and he had to switch call with someone so now he's on call for Labor Day...boo!)
