bullseye

Today at the library. I had a bullseye on my back. It all began when Brooklyn (13months) fell off a bench while I checked out books.  She of course got hurt and was screaming. Was she playing around? no. Was she walking on the bench? no.  She was just sitting on it and since it's a bench, she fell back ward.  Am I a bad mom for not standing right next to her? no. She had been sitting on it for about 5 minutes with no problems, I had watched her climb up it, and when I felt she was secure, I turned to start checking out books.  Of course, that's the moment she fell back. of course.

So, I sweep her up and try to get done as quickly as possible. Tabitha (2.5years old) and her friend noticed the bench and ran over to stand on it.  BULLSEYE!  The police person (not sure what their purpose is in the library) shouts from across the room for them to get down and how their sister just fell off because she was playing around on it.  Uh...no. She was SITTING on it. BUt okay, whatever.  My friend gets her slightly more behaved 3 year old off and of course my Tabitha throws a bit of fit... so I jerk her over to me.

So, lets see...just to be clear... I have a screaming 13month old in my arms (now just crying), a 2.5year old jumping and dancing around near me and oh no...the 5 year old! WHAT ON EARTH could he be doing?!?!?!?  Well... BULLSEYE! He DARES to reach up onto the book counter and hang on his chest with his legs 4 inches off the ground.  Police woman is VERY aware and gives him a shout out and a glare in my direction. Thank you woman. Seriously?  Seriously?!

Can I leave now? Please? No.  Because the darn beeper went off when I walked through the machine saying I'm stealing something. Thank you little library computer for not deactivating the book and only putting it on my receipt. Thank you.  BULLSEYE!

Now comes over the librarian who has been watching us... she is very kind. Very kind. SHe dumps out all my books for me. Of course, since we were headed outside, Bergen (5) has already taken off without glancing behind to see that we have stopped. Finally I tell her I have to go find my son. Thank goodness because Police Woman is outside. Sheesh!

Finally all is fine. We head to the car and Tabitha will not walk because the sun is just too bright. So she tops. I've parked at least 25 yards from where she stops. I get everyone buckled and look up in time to see a very concerned woman staring at my child wondering how on earth she got left behind.  I yell to Tabitha that we're waiting, so at least the woman knows she hasn't been left.  I go grab miss statue and we head back to the car. Of course the woman wants to strike up a conversation with me...

Can you just say "Tears?"
