frustration...

Well, first day completely and really on my own with the 4 kiddos...

Baby has decided that she's officially awake at 5:00am after "going to bed" at 10pm... and of course continuing her daytime routine of eating every 2 hours... Anyways, that's not the frustrating part.

So after a very slow morning (made possible by me taking Bugs out of preschool 3 weeks early:), we went to the park down the road in our private neighborhood.

It was WONDERFUL-for me anyways... 4 kids and no one else there! This is perfect. This is what I'd hoped. The big kids are of course just fine at the park, but Sweets is only fine as long as there aren't a bunch of "big" kids running around to knock her off her feet. We had one big spill. I was holding the baby and BabyGirl decided to "help" Sweets a little too much and Sweets missed the bar and fell through the gap off the stairs and face first into the bark dust. OUCH! So, one can only imagine the DANGER if there are multiple big kids, all excited to "help" or "play" with the toddler...

So we got through that and everything was going okay. Then. Out of the blue. A. Day. Care! In our PRIVATE NEIGHBORHOOD! NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! NOT OPEN TO 15 kids with only 3 adults to watch them! NOT. FUN.

I'm instantly on high alert for my babies. Even more so now. BG is ECSTATIC! They are her friends who ride on her bus because their day care is just down the street (out of our neighborhood btw and I've seen it...it HAS IT'S OWN PLAYGROUND!).

Now. Conflict of interest. On the one hand, we can't stay because Sweets is going to get trampled. On the other, BG says to me, "mom! I never get to play with my friends. This is my only chance!!" oh. break my heart.

We stay. For a little while. We survived. What did "we" survive?

One of the "adults" says "LET'S PLAY TAG" --my worst nightmare with a million kids and me trying to keep my toddler out of harms way. Thank you daycare worker! thank you. UGH! BTW, SHE nearly runs Sweets over.

Then, on two seperate occasions, I witnessed a child get trampled (literally) by the other kids when they fell into the "gutter" of the merry go-round. The first child was noticed by the worker, but she did nothing. Then, the child got off and dealt with it. The second was LITERALLY at the feet of another worker. She was on the ground. I saw the worker look down at her and do NOTHING until her face got trampled and the REAL tears came. Seriously?! wow. wow. WoW! Oh I was so mad! The workers saw my contempt and went over to show some "sympathy" to the little girl.

We went to the park before school to miss the kids. that was the point. I'm glad BG had the time to really play with her friends, but I'm also glad she was okay with us leaving before her friends did. This summer is going to be hard. Actually the next 2 summers... I doubt we will be attempting any playgrounds other than our neighborshood one (sans daycares!) unless hubby is there.
