When we were win college, our Stake president told us about his student life. After he'd graduated college and started a family, he decided he wanted to go to orthodontic school. they had a house and a good job. they gave it up and started over. he said a lot of times, they ate Chocolate Chip cookies for dinner because that's all they had. He said that the kids loved it because they just thought it was exciting, but he and his wife were sad because it was all they had. That. and a lot of beans. :)
We have been really blessed. I think of his story OFTEN. Some nights, I just want to make chocolate chip cookies as well. But, I don't ever buy chocolate chips-they are too expensive...so I always think it's funny that they had all the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies. :)
It seems like when our bank account gets really low and we just don't want to touch it for fear of over-drawing, we don't need to. We get little bonuses...like a restaurant gift card in the mail that I got last month but came TODAY, or going to a friend's birthday party and getting dinner there (one less meal to make!), or in-laws coming in to town tomorrow. Of course, we have our emergency cash I've been building up with my babysitting money, and we have our savings I've been trying to build (slowly but surely we WILL have savings...), but I'm grateful our Father in Heaven loves us enough to not make us use that money right now. We have been blessed...and i don't think we'll ever have cookies for dinner....maybe banana bread, but not cookies :)
