Svend received his first paycheck working for Dr. Hayes on July 25 for $854. We were expecting a low check b/c it takes a while for insurance to reimburse. This was actually higher than we thought. However, there was no pay stub attached and nothing in indicate if this was gross or net pay. Dr. Hayes said he had left his laptop at home but wanted Svend to have something so he hand wrote the check before leaving on vacation to Florida for the next week and a half.
Dr. Hayes returned to work and 2 days later it was payday. August 8th. Dr Hayes said he did not have the funds to pay anyone. He had no been reimbursed yet and could not even pay us our 32% of the co-pays we had been paid (in cash/check). We were extremely frustrated. we felt cheated. To think that we'd been promised the opportunity to buy in as partner at the end of our 2 year contract to a company that suddenly seemed poorly managed…
Monday morning Dr Hayes did not return to work. He had contacted the biller, Trisha, and told her Sunday he would be taking his son to college in Kansas and would return in a few days. He gave no notice so Svend took on all his patients and Dr. Haye's patients rather than suddenly cancel them for the 2 or 3 days he would be out of the office. The secretary did not come to work until Wednesday since she had not been paid. An assistant complained that her checking account was overdrawn by Wednesday as well. We began wondering what our future would hold since we have 5 kids and had been promised a paycheck that would come every two weeks with a pay stub and full disclosure as to what we had billed, what had come in, and what taxes had been taking out.
On August 14th, we were paid. The check was backdated for August 8. There was no pay stub. We do not know if this is gross or net. We do not know if we are being paid under the table or legally.
Our contract states that we will be given a check with all taxes taken out and our 32% will be clearly seen. It also states we will be paid bi-monthly. on time.
Dr Hayes slipped in a out of the office for the 3 days he was back after his 2nd vacation in 2 weeks. No money for employees but for his personal vacations. He has been unavailable. This is extremely frustrating.
Medicaid payed up. or started to. Pay day was the 22nd. We were paid decently. we think. But we don't know. There was a hand written pay stub attached to the check with 3 figures taken our of our over 4k pay check. The 3 figures (hand written) are not designated to go anywhere. There is nothing (again) showing what we have billed, what has come in, or our percentage we earned. Dr. Hayes took everyone in the office to lunch to show them they were on the up and up. He didn't disclose anything other than that medicaid has started paying. He has not made an effort to meet with Svend personally. Considering Svend is his associate and not just staff, I would think that important.
Svend had two surgeries on friday. They were his first, ALONE. Dr Hayes should have insisted on being in the surgeries-helping make the hospital feel more familiar or whatever.
We have gone into hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of debt for this career. We were promised a TRANSPARENT association. We feel like we have been cheated. We feel like we have been lied to. We have uprooted our family with 5 small children (9-1) from Illinois to come here.
Where is the digital x-ray? where is the new office? where is the computer for notes?
