Set up:
Met this woman, Talia's friend's mom, on Monday. She is a very abrupt, straightforward woman. She is a born again Christian and excited it about it. We talked about our lives for nearly 2 hours on Monday afternoon while the kids played outside.
Svend has gone out of town. He left this morning for a conference in TN. He's super excited about it and the VA would not give him funding. He was able to get the conference paid for and $200 in traveling expenses were secured today…as he left. He went shopping last night. We have $107 in the bank account. It was really $7 b/c I put in $100 to give us a cushion. This morning I bought a few things at target and we had $35… So basically $65 in the hole if you want to be technical.
I put in $80 of my babysitting money and kept out $85. I only babysit 3 more times til we move so that's a max of $95 more coming… not exactly the "cash savings" we'd hoped for before we moved to Texas.
Svend gets paid on Friday. We DO have $35 so I could go to the store…but I'm on my own with the kids and that's frustrating… plus I have less than a 1/4 of a tank of gas… so that $35 is needed elsewhere…not to mention I am already paying our gas bill a day late b/c it's due on payday and I can't fund it til pay day…
Pay day is also supposed to be correct… which means we're done with the Bishop's storehouse if possible. I was thinking about this today and how we were going to make it without the help...
Finally got kids to bed at 8pm. Came upstairs to nurse Anders and watch "tv" … there is knocking on the door. I can't tell if it's our door or not but it's loud and not stopping. I tried to ignore it but then I hear Bergen head downstairs. We live in an okay place…but when it's dark and I don't have a husband and i'm not expecting anyone…I really do not want to open the door!
So, I go down to stop him. Tally says "mom! Ava's mom is outside our door knocking." Yep. Ava's mom. Dana. Born again Christian. She just came from Bible study. One about blessing other's with God's love. and she was putting it into action! She said
-I hope I don't offend you, but I have a lot of groceries for you. God told me to bring them to you and so I did. Some of them are opened but most are not. CAn I please give them to your family.-
WHAT?! Blessing. She and her daughter and Tally carried in 6 huge bags of food-- snacks, frozens, dressings, etc. Wow. BLESSING. My freezer is FULL. Full of food. like prepared food. My counter has snacks on it. My kids will go NUTS. There are so many dressings to use on different foods, I am beyond feeling blessed. Tally and Bergen were there to witness and we talked about it after they left. Tally said our famous quote "we aren't rich with money but we are rich with blessings!" AMEN.
Dana told him about God and how Jesus loves us. We are so scared to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and yet here she is just spouting it out. Why can't we be like that?! I shared a bit of my testimony of God's love for us and how he helps us when we reach out to Him. She said she's love to hear about my religion sometime too. She had never heard of our church before-I did not use the term Mormon :)
I am excited for that chat. I was hoping for a real missionary experience…and now I've got one coming…just need to be prepared.
So blessed. so so so blessed.
