So, yesterday after this story, Tally tells me how this girl lies to get out of things. She then said "and she's a ROAR kid! I'm not even one, but SHE IS!" A "ROAR" kid is like the top of the top on the citizenship list. Every day the kids have opportunities to earn "roar" tickets which can be put in a pot in the classroom and every week there are drawings...so the more roar tickets you have, the more prizes you can win. Then, they have a school wide drawing...so lots of opportunities for rewarded behavior. I thought for sure this was something that wouldn't really be done...but the teachers/staff/bus drivers are all in on it and GREAT at recognizing good behavior. Tally comes home with lots and beams and beams. So actually, I don't know how many A.H. must be getting to be considered a "roar kid" but whatever ;)
On to my story...after Tally tells me this, I remember my elementary years. We had this group of kids who the teachers called...get this... "the group." Original. Right? Anyway, they were jerks. If you didn't wear the right clothes or whatever, you couldn't be in their group. I was told by my best friend (who was accepted into the group) that one way to get in was the match my socks with the main color of my shirt. I couldn't have cared less... The teachers LOVED these kids. They always seemed so smart and happy. Of course you would seem that way if you cheated on all the tests/papers/homework and then laughed with all your friends. So, of course they were always on the honor rolls and citizenship lists. Bluh (I was jealous :P not really that much!)
I related this story to Tally and then basically told her how they were all losers (without using that word of course). I really pumped up marriage and motherhood and about how I went to college while they ended up smoking and drinking alcohol and still live with their parents. Maybe I exaggerated a little... haha. Her mouth dropped open and then she said
"Well, Ashley H isn't that bad. She doesn't do THAT stuff" :) I think my point was kind of lost and it made me laugh.
Talking to her, I just realized that it doesn't really change. Nice guys don't always win. I see that now with my husband in his career with his co-workers. One thing that really hit home with my daughter last night, was telling her that Heavenly Father sees all. He knows and I know the truth. And that is all that matters. All this stuff and repeat over and over again but it doesn't matter.
That's all...
